Happy Valentines! Here are the official refs for these four pNPCs. So far, only two of these guys have had any screen time, but the other two are included because they've been mentioned and talked about. I was tempted to leave their appearances as unknown until they made a debut in a comic, but they'll be seen in M8, so there's no point in hiding them right now. xD But I'll be keeping my other pNPCs, both the ones mentioned and ones unmentioned, a secret until later, since I don't know when I'll be introducing them.

For as long as Smudge can remember, he's been working in the mines of his hometown, Backwood Slums. One day, when he was a simple Torchic, there was a cave-in and he was trapped alone in the dark, dusty tunnel. Karma's mother, whose well-known as a kind and strong-willed rescuer, saved his life. She took him home and treated his wounds and it was there that he met Karma. The two became friends very quickly, and despite the fact that Karma was older than him, he felt the need to be protective of her, due to her extreme shyness and innocence. He became like that of an older brother, and would often be keeping her company whenever he was off shift from work. He did this so much so, that he pretty much became another member of the family, though Karma's father was never too fond of him, since he thought poorly of Smudge's vanity.
He soon became scarcely seen at his real home with his parents. They weren't too concerned though, because he had learned to be independent at a very young age, and they weren't the type of parents to smother him with love, either. They too, worked in the mines, so they were always just as tired and bitter as Smudge sometimes was after a long days work.
Smudge never learned any fire-type moves, and his father had to "unlearn" his due to the mine's restrictions. The caves will sometimes have dangerous and/or flammable gasses, and the mine's managers didn't want any accidental explosions taking out their workforce.
Smudge was raised and trained to be a miner, and as far as he's concerned, that's all he'll ever be.

Background:
Jupiter is a trained mail-bird that doesn't have much of a backstory. He was raised be loving parents that taught him the ways of a messenger and how to deal with the various terrains and Pokemon he'll encounter on his routes. But where he lacks in history, he makes up for with all of the tales of his adventures as a messenger. Flying (and running) through mountains, storms and virtually every other environment, fighting off legendary beasts and avoiding disasters, all whilst managing to deliver his goods unharmed and on time. Whether or not these stories are over-exaggerated or even false is unknown, but they're mighty fun to listen to! After many years of serving random Pokemon, he found his way to Onion and Cosmo. It took them a while, but they did manage to convince him to give up his "wild-adventures" and help them keep in contact with each other for as long as they needed him, which is code for a permanent job. He has since decided that working for this pair was the best decision he's ever made. Jupiter still gets to travel through various areas, as Onion will travel as far as she needs to when she goes on her expeditions. But when she's at home managing the store with her husband, he gets to relax and enjoy a simpler life, all while still getting paid.

Cosmo is a very emotional Pokemon and at times, his psychic abilities are hindered because of that. He was always the type to need someone to cling to, and for the majority of his lifetime, that person was his twin sister, Karma's mother. When his sister died he...well, he was extremely depressed. His other half had essentially just VANISHED FOREVER, but through some unfortunate and very...odd events, he met Onion in Prismatic Jungle. His mind wasn't as sane as it should have been, but he had somehow managed to befriend Onion and the pair escaped the jungle. The two went down a road of tangled love interest and confusion, but they eventually fell for each other and became a married couple. They now run a berry and supplies store in Tao. To compete with other stores of similar design, Onion will go on monthly expeditions to distant lands to gather rare delicacies and materials to sell. Of course, these trips were necessary for business, but every time Onion left, Cosmo would just shut-down. To remedy this, they hired Jupiter to deliver messages between the pair. This helped keep Cosmo's sanity under control significantly. Now-a-days, whenever his wife left, he wouldn't be fazed...so long as he received those letters. Thankfully, Jupiter is a highly skilled messenger and has yet to miss a deadline.

Background:
Onion fought for survival since the day she hatched. As a Treeko, she was small and swift enough to avoid most predators, but she was far too small to fight off anyone stealing her food. One day, she was desperate for food and wound up as one of Tivoli's favoured-females. She hated it, and the hate worsened after she evolved. She would often try to escape, but she always failed. She wished dearly to be free to roam the jungle once again, and her wish more-or-less came true the day she ran into Cosmo on one of her escape attempts. He helped her escape, and he convinced her to leave the jungle with him. Onion never knew the meaning or value of loyalty until she had met Cosmo, and this trait eventually charmed her. At first, she just kept him around much like a master and their pet dog, but this changed overtime and they settled down together in Tao as a married couple. It took Onion a while to adapt to civilized life, and she still retains some of her instinctual habits to this day, but Cosmos's calm nature has obviously rubbed off on her. Once you get to know her, she's actually a really cool 'mon to hang out with.
Her nickname, Kni, was given to her by Pepper during her time in the past. Onion was tired of Grand Kec calling Jasmine an "onion" simply because she would often mistake that he was referring to her. She knew otherwise, of course, but it still annoyed her. So Pepper, being the creative 'mon that she is, gave Onion her new nickname.
